Top of the Class: A Chat with "Degrassi: TNG" Actor Luke Bilyk
Emily Koopman: What was the audition process like for Degrassi?
Luke Bilyk: When I had my first audition for Degrassi, it was a long process. I had to start with an audition. And then I waited three weeks to hear anything back. They had called me back for a second audition, and again I had to wait to hear if I got it. An additional week went by and then I was told by my agent that I had landed the role of Drew Torres!
Emily: What does a typical day on set look like for you?
Luke: The last three years I had to do my schooling on set. So when I finished my scenes I would have to go straight to tutoring. When I return back on set this April 26th, being 18 years old I am no longer required to do tutoring. So now I can do my scenes and hang out a bit with some of the other cast members. Being on set is a lot of fun and I love being there.
Emily: Is there a certain role you'd love to play?
Luke: I would choose the time period from Lord of the Rings. Love that time period with horses and sword fighting.
Emily: Have you ever been starstruck, if so, by who?
Luke: I was star struck when I met Evangeline Lilly from Lost. I literally shouted out a little bit. She is one of my favourite actresses and I was so happy to meet her.
Emily: If you weren't an actor, what career field do you think you would have pursued?
Luke: If I wasn't an actor, I would have tried to make it into the NHL. Hockey is another one of my biggest passions. I would've love to play for any team.
Emily: If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
Luke: If I could travel in a time machine I would love to go back to the past. I would go back to the year 1700's where everything was much simpler but people where so eager to learn and advance.
Emily: Do you have any hidden talents?
Luke: I used to do trampolining when I was younger. I learned some pretty cool tricks - to this day I can still do a 720.
Emily: A lot of fans think so, but do you believe you are a bare resemblance to Taylor Lautner?
Luke: Not really, but maybe in some photographs a little bit.
Emily: If your life had a theme song, what would it be?
Luke: If I had a theme song to my life it would be 8 Mile Road by Eminem because it shows the difficulties of an artist coming up in the entertainment industry .
Emily: What do you look for in a girl?
Luke: What I look for in a girl is she has to be funny, sweet, and like my mother's cooking! Also my mom and three sisters have to approve! They taught me how to be a gentleman.
